Book Fair Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What will volunteers be doing at the Book Fair?
A: Volunteers will perform a variety of tasks such as handing out programs, providing directions and general information; as well as staffing areas of the Book Fair such as the Welcome Booths, Kids Region, West Hollywood Writes, Writer’s Room, The Robertson Salon all the Pavilions.
Q: Will I be able to choose where I work?
A: Volunteers are placed based on the needs of the Book Fair. We make every effort to accommodate requests but we cannot make guarantees. It is requested that all volunteers be flexible and work to meet the needs of the Book Fair.
Q: What are the Volunteers responsible for?
A: The Book Fair is sponsored by the City of West Hollywood and all volunteers are representing the City for the day and are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible and respectful manner at all times. Book Volunteers must also
• listen to and take direction from the Book Fair Staff.
• check in on time
• stay in their assigned areas
• check out at the end of their shift
• be respectful to all book fair visitors
Q: Where do I park?
A: There is FREE parking at the Pacific Design Center located across the street from the Book Fair.
Q: What time should I report for my shift?
A: Please plan on arriving 10-15 minutes before your shift begins.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Dress comfortably. White shirt/top and dark bottom (shorts are okay) and comfortable shoes. Volunteer t-shirts will be provided. Also, remember to bring sunglasses and a hat. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
Q: Where do I check in?
A: Check in at the Volunteer Booth located in the center of the park next to the Tiny Tots Building outside the entrance to the baseball field.
Q: Are any meals provided?
A: Yes! There will be refreshments for volunteers in the Volunteer Booth area throughout the day, including lunch.
Q: How many breaks do I receive?
A: Volunteers are asked to work a 3.5 hour shift and during that time one break may be taken. Depending on what area you are assigned, you may receive more breaks.
Q: What do I do when my shift ends?
A: Check in with your Team Leader BEFORE leaving your assigned area. Then, SIGN OUT at the Volunteer Booth and turn in your volunteer badge.
Q: What do I do in case of emergency?
A: Notify a Book Fair Staff person or a Sheriffs Deputy immediately.
